Having no history of cancer in the family is no guarantee you or a loved one will not fall victim to the disease.
Ask Jim O’Brien.
On vacation in Florida last year the Frankfort resident wound up in the emergency room where a CT scan revealed cancer.
A follow-up consultation at home confirmed multifocal primary liver cancer. O’Brien was referred to an oncologist, participating in a six-week study in Chicago where his aggressive cancer did not respond well to treatment.

She had just delivered healthy twin boys when she told her husband that she wasn’t feeling right. That’s when her heart stopped.
“She had an amniotic fluid embolism,” says Dr. Joshua Tepper, an interventional radiologist at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center. “She was unstable and going into hemorrhagic shock.”
This pregnancy-associated condition is extremely rare, but very deadly. It occurs in only one in 100,000 pregnancies, but has a 60 to 80 percent mortality rate.
Using an angiogram, Tepper was able to find the source of the bleeding in one of Wieher’s uterine arteries and stop it. After several strenuous hours, Wieher was stabilized.
Fortunately, most of Tepper’s patients aren’t in such dire situations. As an interventional radiologist, he specializes in using imaging to perform targeted treatments, mainly related to blood vessels.
